Chair of the CULT Committee at the European Parliament, Nela Riehl, has launched a campaign for an EU law protecting artistic freedom!
In further proof of the effectiveness of the RESISTANCE NOW TOGETHER campaign, Nela Riehl, Chair of the Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) at the European Parliament, has launched a campaign page and a petition to call for a 'protective shield for culture'.
As she writes:
Artistic freedom must not depend on which party is currently in power, who heads a ministry, or whether a work pleases the government. That's why I'm advocating for a European Culture Freedom Act. It should create common minimum standards that protect artists, independent theaters, museums, and other cultural venues from political interference and ensure transparent, independent decisions regarding cultural funding—across Europe. No, Brussels shouldn't decide what art is allowed to do. But it must ensure that culture can develop freely, without becoming a pawn in ideology and identity politics.
